Recruit Class 2004A

LBFD Recruit Class 2004 began with Orientation on August 28th. Day 1 schedule on September 7th included facility orientation and a presentation by Assistant Chief Tim Cady. The FF Recruits began their EMT/EMS training and introduction to Ropes and Knots during the first week.

Week 2 started with an Introduction to Power Tools and PPE Walk About. Captain Robbie Grego presented the container tools lecture. At the beginning of each station instructors demonstrated and covered safety concerns for each tool to be operated at that station.

Later week 2, Battalion Chief Kiesewetter presented an Introduction to Morning Apparatus Check-out lecture. Some other skills were practiced including hitting the sled (ax training) and lawn mowing. The afternoon sessions included CPR Skills Practice with the EMS Instructors.

Recruit Academy week 3 included Captain Robbie Grego's excellent "Down and Dirty" Chainsaw and Partner Saw class. In addition to Skills Rotation, O'Cadys Motel was rebuilt. There's one reason to rebuild O'Cadys ...watch the video.

LBFD Recruit Firefighter Training Day 12 included the Final EMT Skills Exam, SCBA Lecture, Walk-About on Air, Compressor Skills, Donning Practice, Serpentine, T-Alley and Stall Parking Rodeos plus an Introduction to Cribbing.

Recruit Firefighting Training Academy Week 7 extinguished some early morning debris and car fires. Then Recruits practiced some related skills including hose lays, roof operations and forcible entry. The photos are here

2004A Week 9, Day 3 -This afternoon the Training Staff surprised the Recruits with multiple simultaneous live fire drills and ventilation scenarios.

Recruit Class 2004A received more great firefighting experience with the O'Cady live fire prop during week 10.

Week 10 of 2004A Recruit Training ended with Night Drills and here's live fire Video of the O'Cadys evolution. Here's some photos from the Night Drills.

The class had a good week 11 including several complex extrications and multiple live fires. Click on the 3 links above to view photos of the action on the Fire Training Center Drill Yard 11/18 and 19.

Week 12 included a refinery firefighting drill at The Chevron Refinery. Recruits also showed no fear rappelling down the training tower and climbing the ladder of Truck 1 to flow water.

The 13th week of  Drill School included offsite commercial structure training at the Boeing facility and a 5th floor live fire response by recruits to the training tower. Streaming video of the fire is here.
